Nice app

Privacy Policy

Updated · 4 min read

The short version

  • Your entries stay on your device, and in your own iCloud if you turn on sync. We never see them.
  • There's no account. We don't know your name or email address.
  • The app sends anonymous crash reports and usage statistics so we can fix bugs and improve it. They never include your names, notes, photos or places.
  • We don't sell data, and there are no ads. The only data we share is with Apple, if you ask Apple for a refund (see below).
  • You're in control. Delete the app, and its iCloud data if you synced, and your diary is gone.

This policy covers the Nice app for iPhone and iPad, made by Incendiary Studios LLC.

What stays on your device

Everything you put into Nice: entries, partners, activities, tags, locations, photos, videos, notes, STD/STI test results and your settings. It's stored inside the app on your iPhone or iPad. With Premium you can lock the app with a passcode, Face ID or Touch ID.

iCloud sync and sharing (optional)

If you turn on Sync & Share, your data is stored in your own private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit, so it can sync between your devices. If you invite someone to share your diary, only the people you invite can see it, and you can stop sharing at any time. iCloud data is protected by Apple under its own terms. We can't access it.

Apple Health (optional)

If you turn it on, Nice saves your entries to Apple Health as Sexual Activity, including whether protection was used. Nice only reads the Health entries it created, so it can update or remove them. Your Health data is never sent to us.

What the app sends us

  • Crash and performance reports. When the app crashes, freezes or hits an error, it sends a technical report: device model, iOS and app version, and what the app was doing.
  • Usage statistics. Anonymous events, such as finishing onboarding, saving an entry or adding a widget, plus counts (like how many entries you have), your subscription status, a few settings (like whether sync is on) and basic device details (model, iOS version, language, region and time zone).

Both use a random ID created by the app, not your name, email or Apple ID. Neither ever includes your names, notes, photos, videos or places.

Other things worth knowing

  • Purchases are handled by Apple. We learn whether you have an active subscription, and whether you bought it or it's shared with you through Family Sharing, never your payment details.
  • Locations are only looked up when you add one, or automatically for new entries if you turn on Use Current Location. Nice uses Apple's location services and Apple Maps to find the place name.
  • Contacts: if you import a partner from Contacts, Nice only sees the contact you pick.
  • What's new: after an update, the app may load a short "What's new" page from our website. The request includes the app version and language, never your data.

Refund requests

If you subscribe from the app and later ask Apple for a refund, Apple asks us for information to help it decide. By subscribing from the app, you agree that we can answer. We tell Apple only:

  • that your subscription was delivered,
  • that a free trial or a preview of Premium features was available before you paid, and
  • whether we recommend the refund, which we base on whether you used the app after you were charged.

We send this only to Apple, only when you've asked Apple for a refund, and never your entries, names, notes, photos, places or any other personal data. Apple makes the decision. If you'd rather we didn't answer, email us and we'll stop for your subscription.

What we don't do

No ads. No selling or renting data, and no sharing beyond the refund answers above. No advertising or tracking SDKs. No account, so there's no profile of you to leak.

Keeping and deleting data

Crash reports are deleted after 90 days at most. Usage statistics are used in aggregate and are tied only to the random ID.

To delete your Nice data, delete the app. If you used sync, also delete Nice's data in Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Storage. Because we don't know who you are, we can't link reports to you, but you're always welcome to ask us about your data.

Children

Nice is rated 18+ and isn't meant for anyone under 18.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, or the CCPA in California), you can ask to access or delete personal data we hold about you. Email us and we'll help.

Changes

When this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top, and mention bigger changes in the app's "What's new" page.
